On 20 March, members of the City of London Green Finance Initiative (GFI) and the Green Finance Committee, China Society for Finance and Banking (GFC) discussed applications of technology driven innovation to enhance green finance outcomes.
This exciting workshop was led by two global leaders in green finance – Sir Roger Gifford, Chairman of the GFI and Dr Ma Jun, Chairman of the GFC.
Dr Simon Zadek, Co-Director, UN Environment Inquiry into Design Options for a Sustainable Financial System and Executive Board Member, Sustainable Digital Finance Alliance, facilitated the discussion and shared his invaluable insights in this dynamic field.
We were also delighted to hear about actual and potential use cases of various green financial technologies, thanks to:
- Ms Saba Shaukat, Product and Marketing Director, and Ms Nouzha Lahrizi, Finance and Operations Director, of World Wide Generation;
- Dr Matthew McCarten, Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford; and
- Mr Amine Bel Hadj Soulami, Global Head of Sustainable Investment at BNP Paribas and Chair of the Banking Environment Initiative’s Fintech Taskforce at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
This marks the beginning of ongoing dialogue between the UK and China on green fintech opportunities and extends the City of London Corporation’s broader engagement on green finance.
