In Paris 2015 at COP, world leaders agreed to take action designed to mitigate climate change and limit the rise in global temperatures to two degrees. Subsequently under China’s presidency of the G20, the Green Finance Study Group was incepted under joint UKChina leadership to produce further thought leadership and guidance for market participants.

Later in 2016, at the UK-China EFD, the GFI and the GFC, agreed to work together on policy and regulation. This culminated in an interim report launched in Beijing on 4 September. The GFI has since signed a similar cooperation agreement with Brazil at the recent EFD. In short, we need to coordinate and leverage these opportunities to position the UK as a leader in green finance, ready to put our capital markets to work to help mitigate climate change.
